CHINICT 2009: 5th edition of the Rising Stars’ Home

mai 19th, 2009

CHINICT is an international conference hosted in Beijing. Founded by Frank Nazikian a few years ago, this conference aims at gathering people around sharing that entrepreneurship state of mind and create synergies between all of them.

Here is a short part of an interview of Frank Nazikian, in december, in which he explains how he came up with that amazing idea of CHINICT :

[…] I quickly understood that I didn’t understand anything.  I didn’t understand the country, the culture, I had no network.   I didn’t know “who was who.”  In China, relationships are important.  This is not that unique to China.  In all countries I’ve worked in, it is very important to know who you can trust or not trust.

My conclusion was that I needed to get connected to the main players in the field.  I proceeded to organize an event that I would have wanted to go to, with the right players in six key categories:

  • Government
  • Media
  • Venture capital
  • Stock exchange
  • Service providers (lawyers/accountants)
  • Fortune 100 sized Information Technology companies

Great idea, isn’t it?

This year, CHINICT 2009 will see some of these stars:

  • Gary Locke, US Secretary of Commerce
  • Zhao Fengtong, Vice Mayor, Beijing Municipal Government
  • Michael Barbalas President, American Chamber of Commerce
  • Serge Abou, EU Ambassador to China
  • Steve Ballmer - Microsoft CEO (video intervention)
  • Nigel Burton - Microsoft General Manager Evangelism
  • John Spelich, VP International Corporate Affairs - Alibaba
  • Cheng Bing Hao, CEO - Kaixin001
  • James Liu, COO of Oak Pacific Interactive - Xiaonei
  • Andy Yao, VP - 51
  • ZhiKang Dai - Discuz / Manyou
  • Victor Koo, CEO - Youku
  • Gary Wang, CEO - Tudou
  • Michael Chi, CEO - Perfect World
  • Inga Han, Deputy Director - Nyse-Euronext
  • Simon Zhang, Managing Director - London Stock Exchange / AIM
  • Guang Xun Xu - Managing Director Nasdaq
  • Kejian Chao, Managing Director - Shanghai Stock Exchange
  • Ren Guang Ming - Managing Director - Hong Kong Stock Exchange
  • Jimmy Wales, Co-Founder of Wikipedia
  • Andrew Lih, Author
I’ll have the pleasure to attend to that conference and eventually meet some of these guys next Thursday, just after my flight!

Beijing Olympic Games 2008 : We are ready!

juillet 31st, 2008

A few days ago, I went near the Bird’s Nest to take some photos with the whole Tongo.asia team. Though it took us almost 2 hours an a half to get there (because of the security measures, the fact that the Olympic subway line is only opened for the staff and that volunteers could hardly say how to reach the stadium), we could finally take some nice pictures. Here’s one:

And here’s a funny photo taken the same day:

I like the shy-looking girl who’s wondering “What the hell am I doing in there?” and the big bulldozer in the back of the photo that seems to say “Yes, we are ready… well, almost”!

By the way, it hardly possible to get a clear picture with Beijing weather/pollution mix…
